Sep. 4th, 2024 09:51 pmThis is not a 'gun issue'. It's a social collapse issue. Americans have always had guns. And plenty of military weapons, too, like right after WW2, when the market was flooded with them. But mass shootings didn't really start until a few decades ago. So what changed?
We now have a surplus of young men, mostly White, who feel like they have no future. I call them Useless Beta Males. I say Useless not as an insult, but as an actual descriptor; society has no real use for them anymore.
They once had use, on our farms, in our factories, in our wars. But farming is now Agribusiness and largely automated. Factories have been mostly shipped overseas and those left here are also largely automated. And our military has down sized, upgraded and fights only Corporate Wars.
So here is a whole cadre of young men - almost exclusively White, meaning our cultural myths have told them they're Privileged - and they see no future for themselves, aka Incels. They're depressed, angry and feel abandoned, which is basically true.
So, they act out they way young men have forever; with violence. And no, I don't have a way to solve that any time soon. But there will be no solution until we recognize what the actual problem is.
PS we Americans have over 400,000,000 firearms of all types, so 'gun control' is a fantasy. Hell, every time someone says 'reasonable gun laws', another AR-15 clone flies off the shelf.
