~I hate Mother's Day. [and that's completely separate from my own 'mother issues'] It is the perfect example of the psycho-emotional tyranny of Marketing. Not celebrating Mother's Day has become akin to burning the American flag or taking a shit on a slice of apple pie. This holiday whores our mothers to a Capitalist imperative that otherwise has little use for them beyond breeding more workers and consumers.
Even the founder of Mother's Day, Anna Jarvis, came to hate it within a few years; “A printed card means nothing except that you are too lazy to write to the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world. And candy! You take a box to Mother - and then eat most of it yourself. A pretty sentiment.” She spent the rest of her life, and all of her money, trying to disestablish the holiday.

So I shall honor Ms Jarvis' wishes and rail against the thing. To simply ignore it would be even lazier than sending a card.
