nebrisThe Republicans have represented The Rich since the 1880s, with Teddy Roosevelt being the major acception.
Under his nephew Franklin, the Democrats shifted to representing - mostly - the poor and middle class. Eisenhower was basically a New Deal Democrat disguised as a Republican. JFK and LBJ continued that. LBJ fucked up over Nam, otherwise he'd be thought of as Great President. /sigh
The less said about Nixon the better, tho he was actually more liberal than Obama.
Then came The Powell Memo...I suggest you Google that. Basically it told Corporate America how to 'fight back against The New Deal'...which they did with a vengeance, buying up media, creating Right Wing think tanks, and so on. [the Sixties *really* scared The Rich]
We totally go in the crapper with Reagan, who was purely a front man for The Rich. We have never recovered from his administration. When he kicked the shit out of Mondale in '84, the Dem abandoned their labor base, which was easy for them since so much of it was irredeemably racist.
Clinton and Obama are Center/Right Corporatists, like all Dem candidates ever since.
And that's how we get here. It wasn't Liberals/Progressives who shipped American manufacturing overseas. It was The Rich, or The Rulers as George Carlin called them. That in turn gutted America's work force.
We can't 'bring industry home' because that skilled force is gone, now too old and mostly dead. And of course, we'd have to tax The Rulers like The New Deal did, which ain't gonna happen. They OWN the govt. Even so, such would take at least a decade or two to implement.
This does not address Accelerating Climate Change, which The Rulers have known is coming is coming since at least the late 1950's. Why do you think they keep buying bunkers etc? I'm not sure how bad it will be. Maybe a few centuries of Really Bad Weather. Maybe 80% of the Earth's surface being uninhabitable. *shrugs*
I'm old, so I should be dead by the time the really bad stuff hits....
