To clarify, I frickin' *love* tanks. But I also love Napoleonic horse cavalry. And I've studied military history since I was nine years old. [63 years ;) ] I can see when a type of 'weapons system', like a Phalanx, becomes outmoded or obsolete.

Lasers and such will quite probably give tanks and AFV's more longevity, but I'd say their battlefield *dominance* is over.

I would say, all good military tactics are useful within a range of contexts, and less so outside that. It's good to know a lot of options. Because what are you going to do if you run out of modern materials? Supply lines are always vulnerable.

Tanks are great against squishy human targets and over smooth to slightly rough terrain. But they can't cross deep trenches without a bridge, or a large amount of tall rocks. They're sitting ducks against nimble opponents like armed drones.
