nebris...I wrote this around 10am Monday your time..I wanted it laid out and concise..but waited because I didn't want to drop this on you at the start of your first day back at school...
Dear Eva,
As you're planning to go to medical school, I suppose we should wrap things up between us for the next decade, because that is how long it will take you become a doctor. If you truly set your mind to it, I expect you'll be a very good doctor.
But the time and effort to do so will leave nothing of you for The Sisterhood and as I've said over and over again, “Everything that I do is in furtherance of The Sisterhood. *Everything* My own wants, needs and desires always come second to that.”
That I still love you is besides the point. I have stayed through all the pain and trauma because you said you were committed to the idea of The Sisterhood and I saw you as the greatest hope for creating its practical expression in the world. But that is now over and I have to move on.
I thank you for all that I have learned these past six months. Your presence in my life has helped clarify my thinking about The Sisterhood and I am forever grateful for that. Blessings upon you, my love....
